Men’s Tennis Turns in Successful Opening Day of Ball State Fall Invite

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team put together a strong showing on the first day of its annual fall invitational. The Cardinals faced players from Butler, IUPUI and Marquette.
Ball State began taking nine doubles matches from its respective opponents. Three Cardinal duos reached the semifinals of the Flight A doubles bracket with the twosome of Vince Orlando and Eli Herran reaching the title match. That match will be played Saturday against their teammates Parrish Simmons and Mason Tran.
In Flight B Doubles, Jacks Lancaster paired up with newcomer Drew Hayward defeating Marquette's Ivan Vazque and Teddy Wong, 6-1. The duo then advanced to the championship round tomorrow and is set to play their teammates Broc Fletcher and Petar Petrovic.
In singles, Tran, Lancaster and Smith earned victories over their respective opponents in straight sets in the Flight A bracket. Those three will remain in the main draw and will play two rounds tomorrow with the championship match being played on Sunday.
Petrovic started the B Flight off strong for Ball State after taking down IUPUI's Will Thurin, 6-0, 6-3. Broc Fletcher followed suite with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat over Marquette's Nathan Balthazor.
Saturday's matches will start at 9:30 a.m. ET with two rounds of singles followed by one round of doubles. The last day of the Ball State Fall Invite will be Sunday at 10 a.m. with one round of singles. Hayward then rounded out the victories after beating Teddy Wong of Marquette in both frames by a score of 6-1.
All matches are scheduled to be played at the Foster Adams Family Tennis Complex/Bill Richards Tennis Courts unless inclement weather were to occur. In that case, the matches will be moved indoors at the Northwest YMCA. The weather in Muncie, Ind., for the weekend is predicted to be sunny and in the upper 70's, lower 80's.
