Women’s Golf Set To Host Brittany Kelly Classic

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's golf program is set to host the second annual Brittany Kelly Classic starting Monday (Sept. 18) at The Players Club at Woodland Trails in Yorktown, Indiana.
The two-day event is named in honor of former Ball State women's golf standout Brittany Kelly (2007-11) who was one of the top playing and teaching PGA assistant professionals in the country before she passed away at the age of 32 on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021.
The Brittany Kelly Classic will feature 54 holes of action on the 72-par, 6,226-yard course with the opening two rounds taking place Monday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The final round will start at 9 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 19) with another shotgun start.
Joining the Cardinals for the event will be Mid-American Conference foes Eastern Michigan, Ohio and Western Michigan. In-state foes include IUPUI, Purdue Fort Wayne and Valparaiso. Rounding out the 13-team event are Cleveland State, Dayton, Loyola, UIC, UNC Asheville and Western Illinois.

All nine Cardinals will be in action at the Brittany Kelly Classic, with the scoring five comprised of sophomore Jasmine Driscoll, sophomore Sarah Gallagher, freshman JJ Gregston, senior Kiah Parrott and junior Sabrina Langerak.
Competing as individuals for Ball State are sophomore Madelin Boyd, freshman Madelyn Young, junior Payton Bennett and freshman Jenna Estravillo.

Kelly, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the fall of 2019, was named the 2022 Indiana PGA Golf Professional of the Year. The first female recipient of the honor, which originated in 1955, Kelly started her professional career at The Hawthorns Golf & Country Club in Fishers and most recently worked at Woodland Country Club in Carmel.
In addition, for her contributions over her entire golf career, starting as a player in junior events with the Indiana Junior Tour, the Indiana Section of the PGA named the Indiana PGA Women's Player of the Year Award in Kelly's honor.
At Ball State, Kelly was a three-time All-Mid-American Conference selection and a two-time All-American Scholar over her Cardinals career which spanned from 2007-11. She became the first Ball State women's golfer selected for an NCAA Regional during a phenomenal senior season in 2010-11. She set BSU records for single-season scoring average (75.06), career average (76.43) and 54-hole tournament score (215).
