April 27, 2026 | Women's Golf
AKRON, Ohio - - Thanks to an even-par round of 70 Monday afternoon, senior Sabrina Langerak climbed five spots up the leaderboard and is tied for fifth overall after the first 36 holes of the 2026 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championships at Firestone Country Club.
After shooting +1 (71) in her opening round Sunday, Langerak went one stroke lower Monday to move her tournament total to +1 (141). She is just five strokes behind tournament leader Veronika Kedronová of Kent State who has a two-shot lead at -4 (136).
Langerak has been exceptional on the front nine both days, heading out with back-to-back rounds of -2 (33). Five of her seven total birdies have come on the front nine, including birdies on the par-4, 413-yard eighth each day. She also has birdied the par-5, 506-yard 17th in both of her round, with her seven total birdies tying for third among the field.
As a squad, the Cardinals remain fourth among the 10-team field with a total score of +25 (585). Kent State, the 26-time defending event champion, remains first at -4 (556), followed by Bowling Green at +7 (567) and Eastern Michigan at +11 (571).
"The course played a little tougher today with some wind, but we just made too many mistakes to make up any ground," head coach Cameron Andry said. "Sabrina played another solid round and I am excited for her to compete near the top of the leaderboard tomorrow."
While she had a little rougher day Monday, junior JJ Gregston also remains in the top 15 among the 50-player field at +6 (146). She was one of six golfers to shoot under par in the opening round, at -1 (69) and is tied with Langerak for third among the field with seven total birdies over the first 36 holes of the event.
Along with her solid birdie total, Gregston is the tournament's co-leader in both par 3 and par 5 average, at -1 (2.90) and -3 (4.50), respectively.
Monday's second-round countable scores for the Cardinals also included a +3 (73) from sophomore Sophie Korthuijs and a +5 (75) from senior Sarah Gallagher. Korthuijs is tied for 23rd overall at +8 (148), while Gallagher is tied for 27th at +10 (150). Korthuijs has six birdies over the course of her two rounds, while Gallagher has four.
