Cross Country Heads to Bowling Green for Mel Brodt Open

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State cross country team will head to Bowling Green, Ohio, on Friday for the 35th Annual Mel Brodt Open. The Cardinals will compete in their first 6K race of the season which is set to start at 6:05 p.m. ET.Â
Ball State will be looking to build off the success of its season opener ran Sept. 1 at Mounds State Park in Anderson, Indiana, when it walked away with the team win thanks to boasting six of the top ten individual finishers.Â
Shelby Christman led the pack, finishing first with a time of 18:27.2. Christman was followed by Sarah Mahnensmith, Carly Spletzer and Jessica Velez who finished second, third, and fourth, respectively.
The Cardinals will meet 10 other teams Friday, including host team Bowling Green, the BGXC Club, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Toledo, Northern Illinois, Akron, Ohio and Saginaw Valley.Â
Following the Mel Brodt Open, cross country will head to Chicago for the Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Friday, Sept. 29th.
