Field Hockey Picked to Finish Fourth in Preseason MAC Poll

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Ball State field hockey team was voted by its fellow Mid-American Conference coaching peers to finish fourth in the 2023 preseason poll while also earning a vote to win the conference tournament. The fourth-place prediction is the highest the Cardinals have been tabbed in over a decade.
After just one season, Ball State second-year head field hockey coach Caitlin Walsh guided the Cardinals to their first tournament appearance since 2019. Ball State also had one of its best seasons in over a 10-year span in 2022. Additionally, as she enters her sophomore season, Fleur Knopert earned First Team All-MAC honors.
The Cardinals will begin their 2023 season with back-to-back non-conference games this weekend at Villanova Friday beginning at 5 pm ET before wrapping up this weekend's play at Lehigh Sunday at 1 pm ET.
For those fans looking to catch the Cardinals at the Briner Sports Complex, Ball State's home opener will be Sunday, Sept. 17 at 1 pm ET versus Saint Louis. The Cardinals recently defeated the Billikens 3-0 in a scrimmage last Friday in Muncie.
