Women’s Tennis Receives ITA Academic Team Honors for the 23rd Time in Program History
July 31, 2023 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - For the 23rd time in 27 seasons, the Ball State women's tennis team was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team, after earning a 3.6 grade point average on Ball State's 4.0 scale.
In addition, for the second-straight season, a record breaking eight members of the squad received individual ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades — seniors Jessica Braun, Emily Desai, Livia Lukacs, Allison Mulvillee and Emma Peeler along with juniors Isabelle Behrman and Mariya Polishchuk. Rounding out the eight Cardinals to earn the individual honor was sophomore Ella Hazelbaker.
Lukacs has received the prestigious honor for five-straight years while Braun and Peeler are four-time recipients. This marks the third time Desai and Behrman have earned the award and it's the second for Polishchuk and Hazelbaker.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.0 scale). All varsity letterwinners are factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2022 and spring 2023).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letterwinner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
