May 16, 2023 | General, Soccer
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State University Director of Athletics Jeff Mitchell has announced today that head soccer coach Josh Rife has signed a multi-year contract extension. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
"This is exciting for me and my family," said Coach Rife. "We have loved every minute here at Ball State and being part of the Muncie community. I want to thank President Mearns, Jeff Mitchell and Alex Perry for believing in me and extending my time at Ball State. Without their efforts, we wouldn't be able to have the opportunities to compete against some of the best competition in the country. I also want to thank the staff and players who have all worked tirelessly to help our program continue to reach new heights. I look forward to what the future holds for this program."
In four seasons in Muncie, Rife has an overall record of 34-22-11. Last season, he guided the Cardinals to the MAC Tournament championship game for just the second time in program history. He earned MAC Coach of the Year honors following the 2020 season. During his tenure, he has coached one NSCAA All-Region selection, 12 All-MAC honorees, three MAC All-Freshmen selections and a MAC Freshman of the Year. The Cardinals have had success off the pitch under Rife as well. Ball State has had two MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete Award winners and 56 Academic All-MAC honorees.
"Josh Rife exemplifies leadership," said Mitchell. "Coach Rife continues to elevate Ball State soccer with a unique commitment to excellence. His intentional approach to the development of our talented student-athletes is helping us establish a consistently competitive program. I enjoy working with Coach Rife and I am excited about the future of our soccer program with him at the helm."
