Back-to-Back MAC Co-Player of the Week Honors for Jihad
December 11, 2023 | Men's Basketball
Basheer Jihad has been named the Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week for the second straight time, the MAC office announced Monday.
The junior forward set career-highs in scoring in back-to-back wins against Detroit Mercy and SIUE. Jihad went for 26 point, 10 rebounds and three blocks in a 68-65 victory over the Titans in his hometown on Wednesday night before posting 27 points and 10 rebounds in Sunday afternoon's 83-71 decision over the Cougars.
With the pair of big games, Jihad ranks third in the MAC in scoring average (19.3 points per game) and fourth in rebounding (7.4 per game) and leads the Cardinals in total blocks (10) and field goal percentage (.524) among those who've attempted at least four per game. The scoring average ranks No. 47 in NCAA Division I through Sunday's games.
This is Ball State's and Jihad's second weekly conference honor after he also took home the recognition on Dec. 4. Akron's senior forward Enrique Freeman is the other Co-Player of the Week.
Ball State (8-2) concluded its home nonconference slate undefeated and will play Indiana State at Gainbridge Fieldhouse at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday in the Indy Classic powered by Gainbridge.
