Gooden Named to 2024 Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Induction Class
November 29, 2023 | Men's Basketball
Ball State men's basketball alumnus Al Gooden will be inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, the organization announced Tuesday.
Gooden, the Ball State career leader in field goal percentage at 58.0 percent (317 of 547), was a Second Team All-MAC honoree after both his junior (1979-80) and senior (1980-81) seasons when he shot a combined 58.5 percent (300 of 513), which is also the best field goal percentage over a two-season stretch in program history.
Gooden led the Cardinals to 1981 Mid-American Conference regular season and tournament championships on their way to the Ball State men's basketball program's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The Fort Wayne, Ind., native was a two-time MAC Player of the Week and also claims the highest field goal percentage in a single season at Ball State, as he shot 60.6 percent (140 of 231) in 1979-80.
