LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Ball State men's basketball team fell 90-64 Tuesday night to Little Rock at the Jack Stephens Center.
The Cardinals (5-2) could not keep up with the offensively explosive Trojans (3-4) who shot 63.8 percent (37-58) from the field, including 60.0 percent (12-20) from the 3-point line. Ball State lost its second in as many road games while starting the season 5-0 at home.
Basheer Jihad scored a career high 25 points and added four rebounds, three assists and three steals. The junior forward provided the bulk of the visitors' production in the first half with 21 points, but the Cardinals went into halftime down 52-32. Jihad led Ball State to early 4-0 and 6-3 leads by scoring the first six points of the game for the Cardinals.
Little Rock got 26 points and five assists from Bradley Douglas and 17 points and eight rebounds out of Jamir Chaplin, with four more Trojans in double figures scoring. This was the first time an opposing team shot 60+ percent against the Cardinals since Feb. 8, 2020 (Western Michigan). The field goal efficiency was the 11th-highest in a single game for a Division I team so far this season, while the 3-point
shooting is tied for the 10th-best this season for a team making at least 10.
Mickey Pearson Jr. (14 points, five rebounds) and Jalin Anderson (12 points) also contributed to the Ball State offense, and Trent Middleton Jr. chipped in five points. No other Cardinal scored more than two points in the contest.
Ball State returns home to face off with Bellarmine at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
