Women's S&D Hosts IUPUI, Eastern Michigan This Weekend

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team returns to action with a pair of meets this weekend, starting Friday when it hosts IUPUI for Senior Day at the Lewellen Aquatic Center. The meet, which will run in conjunction with the men, will start at 5 p.m. with BSU's senior class being honored during the first break.

Seniors being honored on the day for the women are Elizabeth King, Sophia Kuehn, Mary Kate Phillips, Marcella Ribeiro, Kayleigh Witt and Laura Wright.

Following senior day Friday, it will be a quick turnaround for the women, who will also host Eastern Michigan Saturday at Noon.

Last season, the women's squad earned a 189.5-109.5 victory over Jaguars on Nov. 11 at the IUPUI Natatorium. Four different swimmers claimed two individual wins apiece for the Cardinals on the day with Gracey Payne winning the 50 and 100 freestyle, Marcella Ribeiro winning the 200 and 500 freestyle, Laura Wright sweeping the 100 and 200 breaststroke and Hannah Jones taking top honors in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Ball State also won both relays and 3M diving for 11 total event victories.

In the last meeting with the Eagles, the Cardinals suffered a 167-133 setback on Jan. 1, 2022, at the Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ball State was able to win seven events against the EMU, including Ribeiro taking top honors in both the 500 and 1000 freestyle, Wright touching first in the 200 breaststroke and Payne winning the 100 freestyle.

IN THE MAC RANKINGS:
In the latest NCAA Division I Top Time Rankings as compiled by CollegeSwimming.com, the Cardinals have eight student-athletes ranked in scoring position in their respective events after the first two events of the season.

Leading the way is sophomore Payton Kelly who is first in the Mid-American Conference in the 50 freestyle with her relay split of 22.64 and is fourth in the 100 freestyle at 50.58.
