
Women's S&D Earns 171-119 Victory Over IUPUI

MUNCIE, Ind – Ball State women's swimming and diving program celebrated senior night with a 171-119 victory over IUPUI Friday afternoon at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
"Everyone came out here and gave it their all for the seniors, and I couldn't be more excited about the night," head coach J. Agnew said after the meet. "If you look at how far this program has come, it's been on their backs. This group has carried this program forward. When they came here, we were making progress, and they just carried the torch and ran with it. To see everybody out here to celebrate them means a lot. To see not just family but friends, and everyone got to see a great meet. What a great team to race against an incredibly strong IUPUI team. It was a great matchup today."
The Cardinals (2-0; 1-0 MAC) started strong with Hannah Jones, Laura Wright, Eliza Bader and Payton Kelly leading a 1-2-3 Ball State finish in the 200 medley relay, with a final wall touch of 1:45.10. It was the first of 12 overall event wins for the Cardinals.
Kelly and Wright, one of six seniors honor on the evening, both had two individual first-place finishes as well. Kelly won the 100 and 200 freestyle with times of 1:52.14 and 50.97. Wright dominated the 100 and 200 breaststroke, finishing first with times of 1:04.57 and 2:20.60.
Lilia Newkirk and Alexa Von Holtz also swam away with a pair of wins in the pool. Newkirk swept the 100 and 200 backstroke with times of 57.58 and 2:06.02. Van Holtz won the 200 butterfly in 2:05.42 and the 400 IM in  4:34.37.
The Cardinals also picked up a sweep in the diving well, as Grace Walker won both the 1M (286.28) and 3M (275.25) competitions. Her effort on the 1M board was also an NCAA Zone Diving qualifying mark.
Rounding out Ball State's individual event winners was Hannah Jones who took top billing in the 50 freestyle (24.89).
In addition to Wright, BSU honored seniors Elizabeth King, Sophia Kuehn, Mary Kate Phillips, Marcella Ribeiro and Kayleigh Witt.
The Cardinals look to carry their success into Saturday, as they welcome MAC foe Eastern Michigan for a Noon dual back at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
