October 05, 2023 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State field hockey hits the road again for two games with the Cardinals opening play Friday in non-conference action at Davidson. Game time is set for 7 pm ET. Ball State then returns to Mid-American Conference action Sunday at Longwood for a noon start.
The Cardinals enter this weekend's play with a 5-5 record and a 2-1 MAC ledger. Ball State sits in a four-way tie for second place after falling to Kent State 4-2 last Saturday at the Briner Sports Complex.
On Friday, Ball State will face Davidson for the second-straight season who enters the game with a 4-8 ledger. The Cardinals suffered a 4-1 setback to the Wildcats last season on Oct. 23 at Carol Grottoes Belk Turf Field. Senior Rachel Bohn capitalized off a corner that contest from the assist from fellow classmate Michaela Graney. The Cardinals lead the series over the Wildcats, 5-2. The last time Ball State beat Davidson was on a neutral field resulting in a 1-0 victory for Ball State in 2019.
The Cardinals return to league play Sunday at Longwood. The Racers have started the season off with a 2-10 overall record and a 0-3 start to conference play. The Longwood Lancers lead the all-time series record over the Cardinals 8-5. The two teams first met on Oct. 18, 2009, resulting in a 2-1 victory for Longwood. Ball State defeated Longwood last season by a 2-1 decision at the Briner Sports Complex. Both sophomore Fleur Knopert and senior Rachel Bohn each had goals last year against Longwood in the victory.
After this weekend, Ball State returns home for a MAC match-up against Bellarmine Friday, Oct. 13 at 1 pm ET before ending the weekend against Big Ten foe Indiana in Muncie Sunday, Oct. 15 at noon.
