Men's Hoops Media Day - New Season, New Threads
October 11, 2023 | Men's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Media day isn't ordinarily a day for breaking news. A typical media day on a college or pro basketball court consists of countless photo, video and interview stations, with coaches and players proclaiming their excitement for the new season ahead.
Then there was Ball State's men's basketball media day on Wednesday morning at Worthen Arena.Â
With those photo stations planned in the days and weeks ahead, plans for a 2023-24 team photo to be taken in new uniforms were scrapped on Tuesday afternoon when it appeared the new threads wouldn't arrive on time. So be it. Plans went ahead to conduct media day with players wearing last year's new uniforms in white.
But alas ... an hour into the day's photo and media session, boxes arrived from Nike containing the new red jerseys. A team photo had already been shot in white, and players were scattered around the area doing interviews and showing their swagger in those white uniforms with black trim.
End the photo and media day in white? "No way!," said head coach Michael Lewis and veterans Mickey Pearson and Basheer Jihad.
Interviews and photo stations paused for Ball State's great reveal. After a quick change in the locker room, players re-emerged for a new team photo featuring the gleaming red jerseys adorned with black trim surrounding numbers and a Nike swoosh in white. Who says news can't happen on media day?
