Women’s Tennis Takes Down ACC Foe Louisville; Kaplan Clinches Match Point

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Senior Amy Kaplan earned a three-set thriller at the No. 3 singles position to help clinch match point over ACC foe Louisville Saturday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
With the win, the Cardinals improved to 2-1 on the season while UofL falls to 2-1 in non-conference action.
"Trusting in ourselves and the specific things we work on everyday is what got us through today and what continues to make this team stronger." Kaplan said.
Ball State started the match on a high note by taking the doubles point from Louisville after earning victories on courts one and two. First off the court, the BSU duo Mariya Polishchuk and Emma Peeler took down UofL's No. 3 doubles tandem of Rhea Verma and Sasha Gorchanyuk, 3-1. Jessica Braun alongside Emily Desai then claimed the point earning a 6-2 decision at the No. 2 spot versus Cici Xin and Jamilah Snells.
The Cardinals increased their lead to 2-0 with Polishchuk's straight set defeat at the No. 2 singles position. Braun followed suit to make the score 3-0 after beating Maria Campos, 6-3, 6-1 on court No. 4.
Louisville would take the next two points of the match from Ball State. With the score 3-2 and two courts remaining. Kaplan earned the fourth and final point for BSU with a three-set comeback over Snells (3-6, 6-4, 6-4) at the No. 3 slot.
The Ball State women's tennis team will host James Madison Friday, Feb. 3 at the Northwest YMCA. First serve is at 1:30 pm ET.
