Field Hockey Hosts Two Contests At Home For Labor Day Weekend
September 02, 2022 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team will celebrate Labor Day weekend with back-to-back home contests at the Briner Sports Complex. The Cardinals will first welcome Lehigh Saturday before closing out the three-day weekend Sunday against Villanova. Both games will begin at noon.
The Cardinals look to remain undefeated at home after earning a 2-1 victory over Saint Francis last Friday which gave new head coach Caitlin Walsh her first win at the helm of Ball State. Freshman Fleur Knopert and junior Maureen Donegan each scored a goal to help Ball State move past SFU. It also marked the first time since 2017 that the Cardinals had won their season opener.
Ball State faces Lehigh Saturday for the first time since Sept. 8, 2018. The Mountain Hawks won that contest 2-1 on a neutral field in Columbus, Ohio. The Cardinals last victory against Lehigh came in 2017 by a score of 2-1 in Bethlehem, Pa.
On Sunday, Ball State will finish the weekend with a match-up versus Villanova. It will be exactly seven years to the day when the Cardinals and the Wildcats last met with Villanova winning that contest 6-1, Sept. 4, 2015, in Philadelphia, Pa.
After this weekend, Ball State will play on the road against Indiana (Sept. 9) at 3 pm ET and Saint Louis (Sept. 11) at 2 pm ET.
