Cardinals shoot 5-under on final round of tournament
BOWLING GREEN, Fla. – The Ball State men's golf team produced its best round of the week when it fired a 5-under 283 Tuesday to complete play at the Streamsong Invitational. The Cardinals finished the tournament at 4-over (868) at the par-72 Streamsong Blue Course.
Kash Bellar ended the tournament in 18th at 9-under (68-69-70--207). The Peru, Ind. native totaled 19 birdies and one eagle on the week while dominating the par-3 holes in which he averaged 2.83 strokes, fourth-best in the field of 79.
"I was impressed by Kash's performance this week against a field of strong teams and players from southern-school programs," head coach Mike Fleck said. "Overall, I was disappointed by the lack of low scores that were available to us this week. We needed multiple rounds under par, like we had today, all three rounds. We didn't fully take advantage of the opportunity we had in front of us to do that.
"We will get back and work on the things we need to improve on as we set our sights on next week's tournament in Cincinnati and more competitive results."
Griffin Hare was next on Ball State's leaderboard and finished in a tie for 55th at 3-over (75-75-69--219). After beginning the round on the ninth hole, the Tipton, Ind. native's best stretch came towards the end of the round when he strung together three birdies and an eagle between the No. 2-6 holes.
Joey Ranieri shot his best round of the week Tuesday, highlighted between the No. 1-7 holes in which he recorded four birdies and three pars, to finish 63rd overall at 5-over (73-77-71--221).
Carter Smith (75-76-71--222) and Joey Wiseman (72-77-73--222) were part of a three-way tie for 64th 6-over. The duo had five birdies in the round, including four on the front nine.
Rounding out the lineup, Ali Khan tied for 68th at 8-over (74-77-73--224). After starting on the back nine, the sophomore produced a clean front nine that included a pair of birdies.
Virginia won the event at 56-under (808), followed by Lipscomb (815) and Jacksonville (823).
The Cardinals return to action Sept. 19-20 for the Bearcat Invitational, hosted by Cincinnati.
