New Era Begins for Field Hockey, Cardinals Release 2022 Schedule

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State field hockey team has released its 2022 schedule as the Cardinals begin a new era under the direction of first-year head coach Caitlin Walsh.
"I am looking forward to my first fall season with this group of ladies," Walsh said. "We have a challenging schedule that is balanced with home and away matches and has a good mix of old rivalries and new opponents. It will be nice to open at home for our first two weekends and start off strong before heading into conference play. The staff and team are extremely excited for what the 2022 fall season has in store."
Walsh is no stranger when it comes to Ball State field hockey and its historic success over the years. Walsh has spent the last three season as an assistant coach for Kent State helping the Golden Flashes amass a 34-18 record, including a 20-5 ledger in Mid-American Conference play. She was also part of both the Golden Flashes MAC regular season conference championships in 2019 and 2021.
Ball State will face multiple teams from the Big Ten again this season — Indiana (Sept. 9), Iowa (Sept. 25), Michigan (Oct. 2), Michigan State (10/9) and Ohio State (Oct. 30).
The Cardinals will host eight home contests at Briner Sports Complex. BSU's home opener will come against Saint Francis University on August 26 at 1 pm ET.
Ball State will also welcome non-conference opponents Lehigh (Sept. 3), Villanova (Sept. 4), Iowa (Sept. 25) and Michigan State (Oct. 9).
The Cardinals host three Mid-American Conference opponents this season Longwood (Sept. 16), Ohio (Oct. 7) and Miami (Oct. 28) in the Cardinals home finale.
The MAC Tournament is slated for Nov. 3-5 at Miami in Oxford, Ohio.
