MUNCIE, Ind. - Katarina Polyviou, who spent last year as an assistant coach at Muhlenberg, will join the Ball State field hockey program as an assistant coach according to first-year head coach Caitlin Walsh.
"I am thrilled to announce the addition of Kat to our coaching staff," Walsh said. "Her experience and knowledge of the game, alongside her energy and passion made her the perfect fit for our field hockey program here at Ball State. Her values align with our athletic department and program's vision and mission. I am extremely excited to welcome Kat to Ball State."
In just her first year with the Mules, Polyviou helped seven players earn the 2021 Fall All-Centennial Conference Team, two All-Centennial Conference honorees and Maleah Hess was named to the All-Region.
Polyviou began her coach career following a stellar four-year career as a goalie at DeSales University. Polyviou was named to the All-MAC Freedom team all four years, earning all-region second-team honors in 2017. She started 77 games in goal and set Bulldog records for goals-against average (1.89) and shutouts (14) in a career. Polyviou ranks second all-time with 424 career saves and holds the top two single-season marks for goals-against average, 1.30 in 2018 and 1.37 in 2017. She was named national defensive player of the week in 2017.
An intern in Muhlenberg's Athletic Department in the spring semester of her senior year, Polyviou graduated from DeSales in 2020 with a degree in sport management. She also served as an assistant coach for the Muhlenberg women's basketball team.
