MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's basketball team welcomes Portuguese sensation Ana Barreto for the upcoming 2022-2023 season.
"We are so excited to welcome Ana to our Cardinal family," said Ball State head women's basketball coach Brady Sallee. "Her talent level is through the roof. She has the athleticism, size, basketball IQ and talent to be a special player for years to come! Ana will make an immediate impact for us in multiple positions and is already comfortable playing in a system very similar to ours. Her experience playing at the highest levels in Portugal both with her club and for her National Team will prove to be invaluable as she makes the transition to big time college basketball."
Barreto has been a member of the Centre of High Performance of Basketball Portuguese Federation from 2017-2020. She played for the U14-U19 teams helping those squads reach first, second and third place finishes in the Lisbon Regional Championship.
Barreto helped propel her team to back-to-back Portuguese Cups in 2020-21 & 2021-22. Also in 2021, Barreto's team won the championship. Recently, Barreto won the Federation Cup with her senior squad and the Super Cup.
In 2020, Barreto helped the U15 3x3 reach third place at the Portuguese Speaking Countries Championship.
At the 2019 FIBA U16 Women's European Championship Division B, Barreto scored in double figures six times with a season high 20 points against Austria.
From 2016-19, Barreto was a U14 & U16 National Champion between regions while finishing third place (U14), first place in (U16) and second place (U16).
Barreto becomes the eighth player to commit to Ball State women's basketball program from overseas in Sallee's time with the Cardinals.
