It's #MACtion Time:
- Sunday's game against Kent State will mark the 72nd time in program history the two schools have met with the Golden Flashes leading the all-time series, 45-26. The Cardinals split the two-game series against the Golden Flashes last season winning on the road 66-57 on Jan. 15, 2025 and then falling to Kent State at home on Feb. 22, 2025 by a 60-54 decision. Ball State defeated Kent State 70-53 in their last meeting in the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals on March 14, 2025 in Cleveland.
- The Ball State women's basketball team defeated Central Michigan 76-70 in a closely contested midweek MAC matchup Wednesday night at McGuirk Arena. The Cardinals were able to get back on the winning track with the victory while the Golden Flashes just recently fell at Toledo by a score of 59-53 on Wednesday. Prior to that loss, Kent State had won four-straight.
- Brady Sallee is familiar with Kent State as he was an assistant coach with the Golden Flashes from 1995-2002 with former head coach Bob Lindsay.
- The Cardinals typically carry on their success throughout the month of February in preparation for the Mid-American Conference Tournament. Under head coach Brady Sallee the Cardinals own a 60-39 (.602) record in February with his best season being in 2019-20 as Ball State posted a 7-1 ledger that year.
Strong Shooting Under Sallee:
Brady Sallee is known for developing his players into strong shooters, over the years. In the last two seasons the Cardinals have ranked in the top 75 nationally in offense. In 2023-24 the Cardinals were 53rd in offense averaging 72.7 points per game while in 2024-25 Ball State finished the year ranked 72nd averaging 72.5 points per game. This season the Cardinals rank in the nation: 38th in field goal percentage (45.4), 42nd in field goal defense (36.8)
and 37th in scoring offense (77.0).
Road Warriors:
Under head coach Brady Sallee the Cardinals have played well on the road for the last 14 years under his watch. The Cardinals are 119-77 (.599) from 2012 until present on the road. Ball State's best season playing away from home was in 2020-21 when the Cardinals posted an 11-2 mark. Ball State is 9-3 this season on the road including neutral site games.
Where we Rank in the MAC:
Ball State remains at the top of the charts in assists per game (18.4), field field goal percentage defense (36.8), rebound margin (10.5), defensive rebounds per game (30.8), rebounds per game (44.29) and scoring offense (77.0).
International Success:
The Cardinals have had plenty of international success under 14th year head coach Brady Sallee. We all remember Nathalie Fontaine the 6-2 guard from Stockholm, Sweden became Ball State's all-time leading scorer with 2,166 points. The 2016 MAC Player of the Year and AP honorable mention averaged 21.0 points per game and 10.2 rebounds while making over 50 percent of her shots. After Fontaine was Carmen Grande a native from Madrid, Spain who held onto the all-time assists record with 697 until Ally Becki surpassed her last season with 721 and we also cannot forget Thelma Dis Agustsdottir from Keflavik, Iceland who holds the all-time 3-point record with 325 treys. Agustsdottir also competed at the Celsius 3-point championship at the NCAA Tournament.
Ball State at Kent State on CBS Sports Network:
The Ball State women's basketball team has been picked as the Mid-American Conference Wildcard selection to be broadcasted on CBS Sports Network (CBSSN). The Cardinals will play at Kent State on Feb. 1. Tip-off is set for noon at the M.A.C Center. This will also be the fourth season in a row the Cardinals will play on a national stage. Ball State has been chosen to display its past success on ESPN2, ESPNU and CBS Sports Network.
