Ball State heads to conference outdoor meet in Kalamazoo, Mich.
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State track and field team is set to begin its postseason when it travels to the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships, May 12-14. The annual event is slated to take place at the Kanley Track & Field Complex in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Field events begin Thursday with the men's hammer throw at 10 a.m. ET, while track events start with the women's 1,500-meter run at 4:30 p.m. ET.
The Cardinals have won the league title four times in program history: 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2001. Ball State placed sixth at the indoor meet with 62 points, the second-highest finish in the conference meet since 2010 (third in 2020).
A mix of Cardinals boast the top marks among league competition. Kayla Jones owns the top 800-meter time of 2:06.54, which is the second-fastest time in the Ball State record book.
Charity Griffith holds the highest mark in the high jump at 1.81m, while Karlie Zumbro will be the top seed in the heptathlon at 5,205 points as she goes for a repeat performance from last year's title.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Alexis Thigpen, Zumbro, Payton Barlow and Jones hold the fastest relay time in the league at 3:40.49, also good for second-best in program history.
Following the MAC Outdoor Championships, Ball State will compete at the NCAA East Prelims, May 25-27, in Bloomington, Ind.
