
Heptathletes highlight Ball State on first day of MAC Championship

Zumbro, Rogers in prime position after first day of heptathlon
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Ball State track and field team began its week at the 2022 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships Thursday. The heptathlon got the meet started with Karlie Zumbro and Jenelle Rogers competing for the Cardinals.
Zumbro sits in first with 3,103 points, while Rogers is fourth at 3,028 points, just six points away from third. Thursday's events in the heptathlon were the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter dash.
Zumbro won the hurdles in a time of 14.20 and the 200-meter dash in 25.32. She also took third in the shot put with a throw of 10.82m. Rogers placed second in both the shot put (11.63m) and 200-meter dash (25.68).
In the 400-meter hurdles, Zumbro placed sixth and qualified for the finals with a time of 1:02.19.
Jenna Oriani qualified for the finals in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.56, good for seventh.
Rounding out the night, Maddie Aul and Jenna Schifferer set personal bests in the 10,000-meter run. Aul crossed the line in 39:07.07 - over a minute faster than her previous best - while Schifferer was right behind her with a time of 39:46.84.
The finishing of the heptathlon kicks off the action Friday at 12 p.m. ET, while running events begin at 3:30 p.m. ET with the 100-meter hurdles.
