Ball State Travels to Northern Illinois for Four-Game Series

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State baseball team takes to the road for a Mid-American Conference series at Northern Illinois beginning on Saturday, April 23. Saturday will be a doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. ET, with a single game on Sunday and another one Monday.
The Cardinals look to end a two-game skid against the Huskies. BSU has won three of the last five contests and won a four-game series, 3-1, against Akron. Ball State enters the weekend with a 21-14 record and a 15-4 mark in the conference, while Northern Illinois has a 7-27 overall record and are 6-12 in MAC play.
Striving Schweitzer
Tyler Schweitzer was dominant in a complete-game effort with a career-high 12 strikeouts over the weekend against Akron and was named MAC Co-Pitcher of the Week. He improved to 5-2 as he allowed a single run on just four hits. He held the Zips to a .160 batting average. He ranks second in the MAC with 11.60 strikeouts per nine innings. For the season, he has a 5-2 record with 49 2/3 innings pitched. He has tallied a team-high 64 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .208 against him. He bolsters an ERA of 2.90 and a WHIP of 1.13. Schweitzer is expected to get the start in game one.
The Wright Stuff
Amir Wright has reached base safely in 34 of the 35 games this season. He has scored 26 runs and has eight stolen bases, both lead the team. He leads the team with a .356 batting average. He has 19 walks, 14 RBIs, seven doubles, four triples, and one home run. Wright is currently 22nd in the nation as the toughest to strikeout and is second in the MAC with a strikeout average of 13.2. He has struck out just 10 times in 132 at bats.
