April 02, 2022 | Men's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. - The No. 7 Ball State men's volleyball team (19-2, 11-1 MIVA) used a balanced offensive attack to post a 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-20) victory over No. 13 Lewis (13-11, 5-7 MIVA) Saturday night at Worthen Arena.
Angelos Mandilaris led the Cardinals with a game high 19 kills off 37 swings, as the graduate senior turned in a .378 hitting percentage.
Defensively, Colin Ensalaco led Ball State with nine digs while his teammate Felix Egharevba tallied five block assists.
The Cardinal's defense was phenomenal as Ball State held Lewis to a .143 hitting percentage.
In the opening set, Ball State jumped to a quick 5-2 lead off of kills from Mandilaris and Brandon Shepherd. The duo continued to guide the Cardinals offensively the remainder of the first frame of action helping BSU take a 22-15 advantage over Lewis. It just so happened that Mandilaris would throw down the kill to win the game 25-19.
The second set consisted of 17 ties and five lead changes. The score was last knotted at 24-24 but a service error by Lewis put BSU back into the driver's seat. Egharevba then put the exclamation point on second game with a high flying kill which allowed the Cardinals to take the frame, 26-24.
In the third and final game, Ball State once again cruised to 3-1 edge before eventually taking a five-point cushion at 19-14 on a kill from Mandilaris. A kill from Will Hippe then gave Ball State set-point at 25-20 while also completing the 3-0 sweep for the Cardinals.
After the match, Ball State paid tribute to its seven seniors Quinn Isaacson, Colin Ensalaco, Angelos Mandilaris, Felix Egharevba, Will Hippe, Brandon Shepherd and Nick Martinski.
