No. 7 Men’s Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Setback At No. 11 Loyola-Chicago
April 07, 2022 | Men's Volleyball
CHICAGO, Ill. - The No. 7 Ball State men's volleyball team struggled at No. 11 Loyola-Chicago's Gentile Arena, suffering a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 28-26) setback to the Ramblers Thursday night in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association action.
With the loss, the Cardinals drop to 19-3 (11-2 MIVA) on the year while the Ramblers move to 17-7 (11-2 MIVA).
Kaleb Jenness paced the Ball State offense with 15 kills while this week's MIVA and AVCA National Player of the Week Angelos Mandilaris turned in a 14-kill performance.
Tonight, just wasn't the Cardinals night finding themselves on the other a side of the win column for only the third time this season. The loss to Loyola-Chicago snapped Ball State's 10-match win streak.
The Rambler's started the competition off strong taking impressive leads in both the first and second sets.
The Cardinals began to fight their way back into the match in the third frame taking a 9-5 edge over Loyola-Chicago after a kill from Mandilaris.
Ball State became even closer to staying alive in the match after a kill from Jenness to put the Cardinals up 24-22 but the Ramblers fought back to knot the match again at 24-24.
After that, both teams went back-and-forth with the score tied one last time at 26-26. A Ball State hitting error gave Loyola-Chicago the upper hand which was then capped off by a kill from the Rambler's Garret Zolg unfortunately giving the Rambler's set and match point.
The Ball State men's volleyball team will close out its regular season when its plays at Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday, April 9 at 7 pm ET in the Gates Sports Center.
