Junior shoots 1-under 70 to guide Cardinals
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Joey Wiseman turned in a 1-under 70 to lead the Ball State men's golf team Saturday at the Mason Rudolph Championship. The junior racked up three birdies and 13 pars in his second tour of the par-71 Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course and sits in a tie for 58th overall at 4-over (76-70--146).
Kash Bellar carded his second consecutive round with an even-par 71 (71-71--142) and is tied for 33rd overall. The freshman had a team-best 14 pars.
The remainder of the Cardinal contingent is separated by only a couple shots.
Joey Ranieri is 2-over (70-74--144) and is tied for 47th, while Colin Nasser is at 3-over (71-74--145) and is tied for 53rd. The duo combined for four birdies on the day, including three from holes 14-18.
Along with Wiseman, Ali Khan is tied for 58th at 4-over (73-73--146). The redshirt freshman fended off a 5-over front nine by shooting a flawless back nine that featured three birdies and six pars.
As a team, Ball State sits in 10th out of 15 teams at 5-over (573) and is just three shots outside of the top half of the loaded field that features 12 top-100 teams.
"There is such a fine line in these events we play in," head coach Mike Fleck said. "If our scoring range was 69-73 versus 70-74, we hold serve on a good scoring condition day today. Even so, we are right in that mix to get back into top half of field with a good round tomorrow, which is the goal."
The Cardinals are paired with Memphis and Santa Clara for the final round of the tournament Sunday, beginning off the No. 1 tee at 9:20 a.m. ET.
