
Cardinals Host Zips for Weekend MACtion

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State baseball team returns to the friendly confines of the Ball Diamond at First Merchants Ballpark Complex on Friday for game one of a four-game series against Mid-American Conference foe Akron.
Ball State enters the weekend 18-12 overall and 12-2 in conference play after a four-game stint at No. 13/21 Oregon. The Cardinals ended the series 1-3 against the Ducks, but had a chance to win all four games. Akron enters this weekend with a 10-21 record and an 8-12 MAC mark. The Zips split their weekend series with the Western Michigan Broncos, 2-2.
The Wright Stuff
Amir Wright has reached base safely in 29 of the 30 games this season. He has 16 walks and has scored 26 runs, both lead the team. He has added six doubles, four stolen bases, three triples, and one home run. Wright is currently tied for 23rd in the nation as the toughest to strikeout and is second in the MAC with a strikeout average of 12.8. He has struck out just nine times in 96 at bats.
Power Bats
The Cardinal offense features 12 guys that have combined for 33 home runs. BSU is tied for 87th in the NCAA in home runs and are third in the MAC. The team has produced 172 RBIs and has produced 185 runs.
Above Average Hitters
Zach Cole leads the team with a .333 average and has a team-best four triples. Cole has produced 10 runs, drove in eight runs, three home runs, and has two doubles with five walks. Cole is second on the team with a .580 slugging percentage. Wright is tied second on the team with a .330 batting average. Nick Powell has bolstered a .330 average, tied for second on the team. He is second on the team with 23 RBIs. Powell has scored 25 runs, is second on the team in doubles with eight and has hit two home runs. Trenton Quartermaine currently has a .315 average.
