Ball State travels to Illinois State for Redbird Invite

Cardinals make short trip to Normal, Ill. for next outdoor meet
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State track and field team opens a new month with a trip to Normal, Ill. for the Redbird Invite, hosted by Illinois State.
The one-day event, scheduled for Saturday, April 2, begins at 11 a.m. ET with the discus throw. Track events open with the 100-meter prelims at 1 p.m. and end with the 4x400-meter relay at 6:20 p.m.
The Cardinals are joined in competition by teams from Bradley, Butler, Illinois, Illinois State, Illinois-Wesleyan, Loyola-Chicago, Marquette, Notre Dame, Northern Illinois, Illinois-Chicago, UW-Milwaukee, Valparaiso and Wisconsin.
In last week's meet in Miami, Fla., three members of the Ball State squad picked up event wins in Charity Griffith, Kayla Jones and Carly Spletzer.
Griffith won the high jump after clearing 1.81 meters, which stands as the fourth-highest jump in the country so far this outdoor season.
Jones posted a collegiate personal best en route to winning the 800-meter run in a time of 2:12.19. That mark is her fastest time in the event in an outdoor season opener.
Spletzer picked up her first event win in her young Ball State career in the 3,000-meter run, crossing the line in a time of 10:27.06.
Following the meet in Illinois, head coach Adrian Wheatley returns to his alma mater as the Cardinals take part in the Tennessee Relays, April 8-9.
