Ball State gets several personal bests at Illinois State
NORMAL, Ill. – The Ball State track and field team took advantage of the opportunity and posted solid times across the board Saturday at the Redbird Invite.
"This was a meet for people to get out, compete and get opportunities," head coach Adrian Wheatley said. "It was really encouraging to see the young ladies compete today. We had several season bests and PRs.
"They took advantage of the opportunity to compete today. They didn't look at where they were running at or who they were running against. They were just competing against themselves. It was really good to see."
Among the highlights was a lifetime personal best Jennah Rogers in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.30, good for second in her heat and qualified her for the final. Rogers went on to finish fourth overall.
The 400-meter duo of Emma Potter and Jenna Oriani second and third, respectively, after setting season bests. Potter crossed the line in 57.94, while Oriani was right behind at 57.96.
Juliana Stogsdill led a group of six Cardinals and set a lifetime best in the 1,500-meter run at 4:48.05, which also bested her high school mile run equivalent.
In addition, Kennedy Batts and Sarah Mahnensmith made their outdoor debuts Saturday. Batts finished second in her heat in the 100-meter run at 12.48 and then opened the 4x400-meter relay that also included Ashley Craycraft, Stogsdill and Vivian Van Eck.
In her first collegiate meet - either indoor or outdoor - Mahnensmith ran the 1,500-meter race and finished in 5:00.26.
Emma Cunningham also shaved 17 seconds off her season-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and finished fourth in a time of 12:43.28.
"The future is trending in the right direction," Wheatley added. "A lot of stuff that happened today will not show up in the box scores. It was just a competitive atmosphere, and it was fun to watch. Our team knew what the objective was, and it went out and competed."
