Ball State part of three-way tie for seventh with Mississippi State and Virginia
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Ball State men's golf team is in a tie for seventh after the opening round of the Mason Rudolph Championship Friday. The Cardinals sit in a tie with Mississippi State and Virginia at 1-over (285) at the par-71 Vanderbilt Legends Club.
Vanderbilt leads the field at 18-under (266), followed by Tennessee (275), Middle Tennessee (276), Liberty (277) and Cincinnati (278).
"We had a solid day overall," head coach Mike Fleck said. "We fought hard at end of round to jump up to middle of pack with several birdies on 17 a couple on 16 and another on 18. We have a nice opportunity paired with Mississippi State and Virginia tomorrow for our guys."
Joey Ranieri led the way for Ball State and is tied for 21st at 1-under (70). The senior had three birdies and 13 pars on his first circuit of the course.
Kash Bellar and Colin Nasser are both tied for 31st at even-par (71). The duo combined for eight birdies on the day, including five on the back nine.
Ali Khan is tied for 54th at 2-over (73), while Joey Wiseman is tied for 74th at 5-over (76). Khan had a pair of birdies on the back nine to highlight his day.
The Cardinals are paired with Mississippi State and Virginia for the second round of the tournament Saturday, beginning off the No. 1 tee at 10:30 a.m. ET.
