Softball Drops Coach B Classic Finale to #17 Northwestern

Unfortunately, it was not enough to rally the Cardinals (5-9) to victory as they suffered a 10-4 loss to the nationally ranked Wildcats (14-4).

After a scoreless opening inning, Northwestern would tally five runs in both the second and third innings to take control of the game. While Ball State was able to counter with four in the top of the first, that was all the damage it could do in the setback.

Trailing by 10, the Cardinals showed no quit Sunday morning, starting with a one-out double from redshirt freshman first baseman McKayla Timmons. It was Timmons' second hit of the game and was followed by an RBI single from senior shortstop Amaia Daniel.

Redshirt junior catcher Jazmyne Armendariz would get into the action next, with an RBI double to right-center, driving in BSU's second run of the rally.

Ball State would go on to load the bases after freshman right fielder Emma Niece was hit by a pitch and sophomore center fielder Hannah Dukeman dropped a bunt single.

The Cardinals' third run came on a sac fly from junior second baseman Haley Wynn, while the fourth and final run scored on a Northwestern error.

Ball State would also start a Sunday afternoon game versus Southern Illinois, playing two complete before a storm rolled in forcing the contest to be called.

The Cardinals return to action Wednesday, with a 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. CT first pitch at Grand Canyon. The contest versus the 15-5 'Lopes will be broadcast live on ESPN+.Â
