Cardinals Fly South to Florida for Matchup with Rattlers

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State baseball team returns to the diamond on Friday for game one of a four-game series against Florida A&M. The Cardinals and Rattlers will begin the series from Moore-Kittles Field at 4 p.m. on Friday, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday.
The Cardinals come into Friday's contest with a 2-6 record, while the Rattlers enter with a 5-4 mark.
Amir Wright leads the Cardinals with a .321 batting average. Wright has reached base safely in all eight games of the season and has the team's lone triple of the season. He has stolen a team-best two bases. Wright is tied with Ryan Peltier for the team lead with three doubles. Nick Powell is second on the team hitting .267 and has a team-best seven RBIs. Powell is currently riding a five-game hitting streak. Trenton Quartermaine and Hunter Dobbins are tied for the team lead with two home runs each.
Tyler Schweitzer leads the team with 10 1/3 innings pitched and has a team-best 11 strikeouts. He is 0-2 in two starts on the year. Trennor O'Donnell has made two starts on the season and he's tied for second on the team with 10 strikeouts. O'Donnell has an ERA of 5.79 in 9 1/3 innings of work and has a 0-1 mark. Ty Johnson has a 0-1 record with two starts. Johnson has pitched eight innings and has eight strikeouts with a 9.00 ERA. Ty Weatherly has made three appearances with one start. He has a 2.45 ERA with six strikeouts. Sam Klein has been solid as a relief pitcher and is tied for second on the team with 10 strikeouts. Klein has made three appearances with a 5.40 ERA in five innings of work.

FAMU is led by Grant Rowell, who is the SWAC Hitter of the Week. Last week, Rowell went 7-for-11 with four RBIs and a .636 batting average. For the season, Rowell is hitting .381. Joseph Pierini and Ty Hanchey are the only two Rattlers with double-digit hits. Hanchey has a team-best four doubles. Pierini has two of the team's three triples.
