Event, heat wins aplenty for Ball State at Miami

Cardinals pick up multiple wins at Hurricane Collegiate Invitational
MIAMI, Fla. – The Ball State track and field team earned multiple event and heat wins to highlight its performance at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational Saturday. Three Cardinals picked up event wins in Charity Griffith, Kayla Jones and Carly Spletzer.
Griffith won the high jump after clearing 1.81 meters, which stands as the fourth-highest jump in the country so far this outdoor season.
Kayla Jones posted a collegiate personal best en route to winning the 800-meter run in a time of 2:12.19. That mark is her fastest time in the event in an outdoor season opener.
Carly Spletzer picked up her first event win in her young Ball State career in the 3,000-meter run, crossing the line in a time of 10:27.06.
Karlie Zumbro set a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles and won her heat with a time 1:01.51, placing second overall.
Payton Barlow and Alexis Thigpen went 1-2 in their heat of the 400-meter dash, finishing with times of 56.08 and 56.47, respectively.
In the 200-meter dash, Jenna Oriani won her heat with a time of 25.24.
Jenelle Rogers set a personal best in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.19 and had a collegiate best long jump of 5.64 meters, good for second overall.
In the 100-meter dash, Moriah Johnson finished second in her heat and improved by 0.6 second from the outdoor opener last week.
Makensie Kramer came up just 0.1 second away from a lifetime best in the 100-meter hurdles after crossing the line in 14.45.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Thigpen, Oriani, Johnson and Michelle Lehmann finished third with a time of 47.05.
Ball State returns to the track Friday, April 1 for the Redbird Invite in Normal, Ill.
