Men’s Volleyball Opens Tough MIVA Road Stretch With Win At Quincy
March 25, 2022 | Men's Volleyball
QUINCY, Ill. - The No. 8 Ball State men's volleyball team (16-2, 8-1 MIVA) opened its two-match Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) road stretch with a dominating 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 27-25) sweep at Quincy (4-13, 0-9 MIVA) Friday night in Pepsi Arena.
The Cardinals used a strong offense which was accompanied by an all-around team effort to complete this year's two-match MIVA sweep over the Hawk's.
Ball State's defensive pressure gave Quincy fits all night at the net as the Hawks hit only .147 from the floor while the Cardinals turned in a .362 hitting percentage which was led by Kaleb Jenness and Angelo Mandilaris as the outside hitting duo had 10 kills apiece.
The Cardinals were in the driver's seat pretty much the entire contest from start to finish. Ball State opened the first stanza with a 3-1 advantage and never looked back, winning the frame 25-13. Ball State had built a 10-point edge at 18-8 on a kill from Mandilaris.
The second set mimicked the first set for Ball State as the Cardinals again jumped out to a 3-1 advantage over the Hawks. BSU remained in control winning the second stanza by a score of 25-19.
Quincy did have a slight edge over Ball State in the final set, but Ball State was able to hang on to come out on top 27-25 after a Mandilaris kill and a service ace from Xander Pink.
The Ball State men's volleyball team will wrap up its long road weekend on Saturday at Lindenwood. First serve is at 7 pm ET in Robert F. Hyland Arena.
