ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Ball State men's volleyball team ended its two-match Mid-Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) road swing with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-23) victory over Lindenwood Saturday night at the Robert F. Hyland Arena.
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 16-2, 8-1 in MIVA action while the Lions fall to 8-9 overall and 5-5 in league play.
Aside from all the travel this weekend, Ball State finished its long road trip with a 2-0 record, posting wins at Quincy and at Lindenwood.
It was a tightly contested first set between the Cardinals and Lions to open tonight's contest. But Ball State has been consistent in pressure situations and was able to prevail late in the frame to earn the 25-23 victory off a kill from Angelos Mandilaris in set one.
The Ball State offense came out on fire in the second stanza, turning in a .316 attack percentage and played well defensively registering four blocks. The Cardinals started the third set with an impressive 6-1 edge over the Lions and never looked back. Ball State went on to win the frame, 25-13.
A great back row attack from Kaleb Jenness in the third set gave BSU the late 24-21 lead over Lindenwood. A service error from the Lions then sealed the Cardinals 25-23 win in the third frame allowing Ball State to increase its win streak to eight.
For the game, Jenness led the Cardinals charge with 12 kills while Mandilaris tallied 11 on the night. Mandilaris also led BSU defensively with seven defensive digs and while Will Hippe registered five block assists.
