March 12, 2022 | Men's Volleyball
PRINCETON, N.J. - The No. 8 Ball State men's volleyball team (13-2) wrapped up its east coast spring break trip with a 3-0 sweep at Princeton (5-11) Saturday evening at the Dillon Gym.
"I felt like after last night's win we were in a really good head space," Ball State head men's volleyball coach Donan Cruz said. "Things were firing on all cylinders. Our guys were rallying around and picking each other up and I feel like things are really going well with our team right now."
Senior outside attacker Kaleb Jenness topped the Cardinals' offense with a game high 14 kills off 23 attempts for a .522 hitting percentage while also racking up three service aces and four digs. Jenness was joined in the double digit kill category by senior opposite Angelos Mandilaris who tallied 10 kills on the night.
The Cardinals benefited tonight from the Tigers miscues at the net with 15 hitting errors. Ball State also played off some of Princeton's miscommunications on the court tonight and was able to hit 70 percent from the floor in both the first and third sets. The Cardinals only forfeited five lead changes throughout the course of the night.
The closest set was the second frame of action where Princeton had jumped to a 17-11 lead at one point. Ball State answered by outscoring Princeton 9-3 to tie the set 20-20 which came off a Mandilaris kill.
After that, both teams went neck-and-neck but back-to-back attack errors by the Tigers lifted BSU past Princeton in set two, 26-24.
The Ball State men's volleyball team returns to Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association action when it takes on rival Ohio State for a home and away series that begins Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio. First serve is at 7 pm ET.
