
Cardinals Set to Host Eagles for MAC, Home Opener

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State baseball team is slated to host Eastern Michigan for a four-game series beginning on Sunday. The series will be the Mid-American Conference and the home opener for the Cardinals. The doubleheader on Sunday will begin at noon with the second game beginning 30 minutes after the conclusion. Monday's doubleheader will begin at 11 a.m.
BSU is coming off a strong 3-1 weekend at Florida A&M that resulted in Trenton Quartermaine and Ty Johnson earning national and weekly honors.
Trenton Trots
Quartermaine was named one of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week after he produced four-straight games with a home run last week. He hit four homers with four runs scored, and five RBIs as he went 7-for-19 at the plate for a .368 batting average for the week to claim weekly accolade. He was the only Cardinal hitter to not strikeout for the week. He produced a staggering 1.053 slugging percentage. He was solid defensively as well, as he posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage on 20 chances. Quartermaine is tied for 19th in the NCAA with five home runs and leads the MAC.
"Cy" Johnson
Johnson was named MAC Pitcher of the Week after he pitched an absolute gem against FAMU where he had a no-hitter through six innings of work. He only gave up one hit, which came in the bottom of the seventh. He struck out a career-high nine batters as he posted the most innings pitched in a single appearance with six innings. He picked up his first win of the season and moved to 1-1 on the year. Johnson is second on the team with 17 strikeouts on the year in 14 innings of work.
The Wright Stuff
Amir Wright has reached base safely in all 12 games this season and is second on the team with a .325 batting average. His 10 walks are third in the MAC. Wright has scored eight runs and hit three triples, both lead the team. He has added four doubles, two stolen bases, and one walk. Wright is currently on a five-game hitting streak.
RBI Powell
Nick Powell leads the team with 13 RBIs, which is second in the MAC. He also leads the squad with a .326 batting average. He has scored five runs, drawn three walks, hit two doubles, and has two home runs.
Strikeout Staff
As a team, the Ball State pitching staff is sixth in the NCAA and leads the MAC in strikeouts per nine innings with 12.2.
Tyler Schweitzer leads the team in innings pitched with 16 1/3 with an ERA of 4.69. He has a 1-2 record with a team-best 19 strikeouts. Trennor O'Donnell has a 1-1 mark in 14 innings on the mound. O'Donnell is third on the team with 16 strikeouts. Sam Klein, Nate Dohm, and Ty Weatherly have been strikeout machines as all three have recorded double-digit strikeouts. The Cardinal pitching staff also features four relievers that have a 0.00 ERA with a minimum of two appearances.
