Women’s Tennis Earns 5-2 Road Victory At WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Ball State women's tennis team improved to 4-1 this spring after posting a 5-2 road victory at Western Kentucky (5-3) Saturday afternoon at the Michael O. Buchanon Tennis Facility.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point from the Hilltoppers.
First off the court was the No. 2 duo of Amy Kaplan and Hannah Davies as they sped past their opponents Laura Bernardos and Mariana Zegada after tallying a 6-0 win.
The point was then claimed by Mariya Polischuk and Emma Peeler on the top court as the twosome defeated Cora-Lynn vonDungern and Paola Cortez, 6-3.
Polishchuk carried her winning ways into singles play and quickly put the Cardinals up 2-0 after beating Cortez at position No. 3. She did not give up a point to Cortez winning the match 6-0, 6-0.
After that, Amy Kaplan followed suit with a straight match against WKU's No. 4 player Taylor Shaw.
With Ball State leading the competition 3-0, Elena Malykh clinched the fourth point for Ball State at the No. 6 spot after posting a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Sofia Blanco.
The Ball State women's tennis team will be back in action on Sunday at Middle Tennessee. First serve is at 1 pm ET.
