Women’s Tennis Has Strong Performance on the Road at Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Ball State women's tennis team (2-1) narrowly fell by a score of 4-3 to Louisville (4-1) on Friday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
UofL would take the early 1-0 lead over BSU after earning wins on two of thee three courts. On the top court, the Ball State twosome of Livia Lukacs and Jessica Braun gave Louisville's No. 1 twosome a run for their money losing the match by only two games, 7-5. Amy Kaplan and Hannah Davies did win their doubles match over Dina Chaika and Chelsea Sawyer by a score of 6-3 at position three.
Ball State wasted no time in singles play to start making a comeback. BSU knotted the match 1-1 after Kaplan quickly exited court No. 4 with a straight set take down over Louisville's Dina Chaika, 6-2, 6-0.
After that, Louisville earned victories at the No. 6, No. 1 and No. 2 positions in that order to go up 4-1 claiming the match with two courts still remaining.
BSU would then close out the match on a high note as Mariya Polishchuk defeated Chelsea Sawyer at the No. 3 slot in a three-set thriller, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.
Hannah Davies was tied one set apiece against UofL's No. 5 player Sasha Gorchanyuk but late in the third frame Gorchanyuk would have to retire giving Davies the victory.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues non-conference play when it returns home Saturday, Feb. 12 for a 1:30 pm ET match at the Northwest YMCA.
