February 12, 2022 | Men's Volleyball
LEBANON, Ill. - The Ball State men's volleyball (8-1, 2-0 MIVA) team will have a fun bus ride home as the Cardinals completed their two-match Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) opening weekend with back-to-back victories after defeating McKendree (4-4, 1-1 MIVA) Saturday night by a score of 3-1 in the Melvin Price Convocation Center.
Ball State and McKendree opened tonight's match with a lot of competitiveness and rightfully so as the Bearcats were coming off a 3-1 upset over No. 12 Ohio State on Thursday and the Cardinals managed to sweep No. 6 Lewis in their MIVA opener.
The Cardinals managed to hold onto late leads in frames one and two over the Bearcats, allowing Ball State to take an early 2-0 advantage over the McKendree to start the match on high note.
Ball State was on fire offensively in the opening set hitting .636 percent off 22 swings.
Both teams then struggled at the net in the remaining three sets. McKendree stunned the Cardinals with a late run to finish set three atop of BSU, 25-22.
The Cardinals would then take the fourth and final frame 25-19 to seal the victory.
What helped the Cardinals tonight was their defense. Ball State tallied 28 blocks which was led by Felix Egharevba who had 10, he also added three service aces to the mix.
As a team Ball State had 27 block assists while McKendree only registered 12 on the night.
Offensively, Kaleb Jenness led Ball State with 19 kills while hitting .417 percent off 36 total attacks.
