December 06, 2022 | Men's Basketball
NEW CASTLE, Ind. – Seventeen men have been named to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame's 2023 Silver Anniversary Team, based on outstanding accomplishments as a senior basketball player 25 years ago. Ball State's Petie Jackson was honored with a spot on the anniversary team.
During his time with the Cardinals, Jackson was a member of the 1999-2000 men's basketball team that won the MAC West Division as well as the MAC Tournament. He was also a member of the 2001-02 team that won the MAC West Division and made it to the NIT quarterfinals.
One of Jackson's notable moments was during the 2001 Maui Invitational. His driving layup with less than a second left on the clock propelled the Cardinals over the No. 4 Kansas Jayhawks, 93-91. The next day against No. 3 UCLA, Jackson recorded his second-straight game with 23 points. He followed that up with a 21-point game against No. 1 Duke in the Maui Invitational Championship game.
During the Cardinals' NIT run in 2002, Jackson dropped 28 points in round three against St. Joseph's. In the round of 16, Jackson drained an off-balanced 3-pointer that gave Ball State a lead over LSU with less than two minutes left in regulation. The Cardinals knocked off the Tigers, 75-65, as Jackson finished with 19 points.
For his career, Jackson amassed 1,348 points and ranks 16th all-time in scoring for Ball State. His 565 points are the 14th-most points scored in a single season in BSU history. Jackson did more than score, he is currently tied for eighth all-time with 349 assists. His 132 steals are currently 12th in program history. When he graduated from Ball State, he held the record for most 3-pointers in a career with 202 and is currently fifth. During the 2001-02 campaign, he made 81 3-pointers, which is second in program history. He recorded a 3-point percentage of 42.7 and is ranked third all-time at BSU.
Jackson excelled in the classroom as well. He was a 2002 CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team honoree. He earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District team twice.
Prior to Ball State, Jackson was a 1998 Indiana All-Star. He was honored with being All-State, All Hoosier Heritage Conference, HOF Classic All-Tournament Team, Delaware County Co-Player of the Year, John Wooden MCL Citizen Award recipient, and nominated to the McDonalds All-American Team. He averaged 19 points and 6.9 assists per game as a senior, while scoring 1,241 points for his career.
