WBB’s Offense and Strong Rebounding Leads to Dominating Win Over SLU
December 05, 2022 | Women's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's basketball team (6-2) dominated the tempo of tonight's ball game from start to finish, which led the Cardinals to their fourth-straight victory after defeating the Saint Louis Billikens (3-9), 85-51, Monday night in Worthen Arena.
Ball State head coach Brady Sallee was impressed with his team's defensive efforts. The stat sheet proved that statement to be true as the Cardinals outrebounded the Billikens, 45-29. Ball State also held Saint Louis to its lowest point total of the season thus far.
Sallee said after the contest that if his team could rebound then the shots would fall and that was also apparent tonight as the Cardinals shot over 50 percent from the field (31-61).
Ball State had three players score in double figures with graduate senior Thelma Dis Agustsdottir leading the way with 17 points off 5-of-6 shooting from behind the arc. Redshirt senior Anna Clephane tallied 16 points and sophomore Madelyn Bischoff chipped in 13. Defensively, sophomore Marie Kiefer had 11 total rebounds, 10 of which were defensive.
Bischoff and sophomore Ally Becki quickly got the Cardinals off on the right track scoring the first nine points of the game. After that, Ball State left Saint Louis in the dust, jumping out to a 22-14 lead after the first quarter of play.
The second 10 minutes of action pretty much mimicked the first frame, as the Cardinals outpaced the Billikens, 19-10. Agustsdottir was on fire on all cylinders of the court scoring 14 points in the first half alone. She went 5-of-6 from the field and 4-of-5 from behind the arc, helping Ball State to an impressive 41-25 cushion over Saint Louis at intermission.
After the break, the all-around offensive success continued including the team's unselfishness which was apparent with their 21 total assists.
All-in-all it was an all-around team performance which saw 10 different Cardinals score two or more points including 24 points that came from the Ball State bench.
