Gymnastics Sparkles In Red vs. White Meet

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State gymnastics team left fans wanting more Sunday afternoon at Worthen Arena, turning in several spectacular performances at its annual Red vs. White meet.

"What a fun day," head coach Joanna Saleem. "We had several spectacular performances, led by an amazing vault from Suki. Overall, I was really pleased with our energy, focus, and intensity. This was a great way to head into finals week and winter break, and I am excited to see how this will spark us heading into the competitive season."

In a non-traditional scoring setup, with three athletes scoring for their respective Red or White squads in each event, it was Team White which earned the 116.800 to 115.200 victory.

Leading the way for White were solid all-around performances from senior Megan Teter and junior Victoria Henry who scored 38.950 and 38.900 respectively.

However, the meet started off with junior Suki Pfister wowing the crowd and giving the Red squad a 29.275 to 29.150 win on vault with an impressive 9.925 in the first rotation. A 2022 NCAA Regional vault competitor, Pfister turned in the best vault in the MAC last season at 9.950.

Henry was the white squad's top performer on vault, turning in a 9.775.

The second rotation saw White claim the bars victory, with a 29.250 to 28.875 edge. Leading the way on the apparatus was Teter who collected a 9.800. In fact, all three gymnasts on the white team scored at least a 9.700.

Led by a 9.775 by senior Taylor Waldo, the White squad picked up its second consecutive event win on beam, out-scoring Red 87.575 to 86.950. Fellow senior Grace Evans also gave White a lift with a 9.725.

Finally, White rounded out the day with a 29.225 to 28.250 victory on floor, led once again by Henry at 9.775 and followed closely by Teter at 9.750.

Despite the loss, Red also had a pair of all-around competitors, with junior Hannah Ruthberg scoring 38.200 and freshman Zoe Middleton turning in a 37.750. Ruthberg earned high scores of 9.650 on vault and bars, while Middleton earned a 9.700 on vault.

The Ball State gymnastics team officially opens the 2023 season on Friday, Jan. 6, at Florida. The Cardinals and host Gators will also battle Lindenwood and West Virginia starting at 7 p.m. ET.
