Women’s Swimming & Diving Welcomes Akron Saturday

MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team returns to action Saturday at Noon, when it welcomes Akron to the Lewellen Aquatic Center for a Mid-American Conference dual.
The Cardinals (1-1; 0-1 MAC) are coming off a split weekend after topping Eastern Illinois at home last Friday by a score of 163-93, before falling at Bowling Green Saturday by a 174.5-124.5 margin.
Overall, Ball State's swimmers won 16 of the 30 events they competed in, led by three individual wins by sophomore Hannah Jones.
BSU will look to carry over that success into Saturday's meet against an Akron squad which has won eight of the last nine Mid-American Conference Swimming & Diving Championships. The Zips enter the weekend with a 1-0 (1-0 MAC) dual record and will swim at Ohio State Friday before taking on the Cardinals.

The last time Ball State and Akron met in a dual meet was March 13, 2021, with the Zips earning a 208-91 victory in its home pool. A then-freshman Marcella Ribeiro was the Cardinals' top performer in the meet, claiming wins in the 200 and 500 freestyle events.
IN THE MAC RANKINGS – WOMEN:
Entering Saturday's meet, the Cardinals have six student-athletes ranked in scoring position in their respective events after the first three meets of the season, as compiled by CollegeSwimming.com.
Freshman Payton Kelly, who placed 16th in the prelims of the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.42 (SCM) at last weekend's FINA World Cup in Toronto, is BSU's top-ranked swimmer, holding fifth in the 50 freestyle with her time of 23.45.

MAC AWARD WINNERS:
Two weeks into the season and the Cardinals have already claimed one MAC award, with freshman Payton Kelly named the MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week after her performance at the Indiana Intercollegiates.
Kelly won both the 50 (23.45) and 100 (51.55) freestyle events at the meet and swam the first leg of the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.05).
