No. 9/11 Notre Dame (3-0)
Nov. 20Â | South Bend, Ind. | Joyce Center | 4 pm ET
Opening Tip:
- Ball State returns to the road Sunday to play its third-straight team from the state of Indiana when the Cardinals head north to take on No. 9/11 Notre Dame at 4 pm ET in the Joyce Center.Â
- The Cardinals and the Fighting Irish will face off for the first time since the 1981-82Â season. Ball State lost that contest to Notre Dame, 57-60, but the Cardinals lead the all-time series record, 2-1.Â
- Ball State is coming off of an impressive win over in-state rival Butler Thursday night in Worthen Arena. The Cardinals defeated the Bulldogs, 84-68. For the game, Ball State had four players in double figures with sophomore Ally Becki leading the charge with 18 points, including 5-of-8 shooting from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Redshirt senior Anna Clephane scored in double digits for the third-straight game after registering 15 points on the night. Graduate senior Thelma Dis Agustsdottir and sophomore Madelyn Bischoff ended the night with 12 points apiece.Â
- Notre Dame will be the fourth school from the state of Indiana that the Cardinals will face this season. Ball State has already played IU East (Nov. 14) and Butler (Nov. 17) and is set to host IUPUI Thursday, Dec. 8. So far, the Cardinals are 2-0 against schools from Indiana.
- The Fighting Irish look to remain undefeated Sunday against the Cardinals after starting the season off with a 3-0 record after posting victories against fellow Mid-American Conference member Northern Illinois (88-48), California (90-79) and Northwestern (92-58).
- Prior to the start of the Ball State-Notre Dame showdown, the Irish community will take a few moments to honor Katryna Gaither, who will be inducted into the Notre Dame Ring of Honor.
I'm A Survivor:
Both redshirt senior Anna Clephane and senior Estel Puiggros have suffered season-ending injuries over their career at Ball State. But both have worked hard to come back stronger than ever. Clephane currently leads the team in scoring averaging 16.3 points per contest. She scored 12 points at Tennessee Tech (Nov. 7), 22 points versus IU East (Nov. 14) and 15 points against Butler (Nov. 17). Puiggros finally made her way back onto the court against IU East playing just over four minutes and managed to score her first basketball of the season. Clephane currently has 826 points for her career and needs 174 to reach 1,000 career points.
Second Half Cardinals:
Although the Cardinals lost in their season opener the stats proved that they could be a second half team this season. Ball State outscored Tennessee Tech 39-29 in the second half of Monday's games. The Cardinals best quarter was the fourth period when Ball State outpaced Tennessee Tech, 16-9. The Cardinals also won the rebounding category over the Golden Eagles, 48-28. Same scenario and different game against Butler Thursday in Worthen Arena. The Cardinals were trailing at the half but outscored the Bulldogs 52-35 in the second half to earn the 84-68 victory over their rival.Â
Next Game:
After tonight's contest the Cardinals will make their way out west where they will play two games in Utah. Ball State will face Utah State Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 4 pm ET and will then close out the Thanksgiving break at BYU Saturday at 6 pm ET. Ball State has faced Utah State only once, winning that game 81-55 last year in Worthen Arena and it will be the first-ever meeting between BYU and BSU.Â
