Ball State Adds Mason Jones to 2023 Class
November 10, 2022 | Men's Basketball
MUNCIE, Ind. – Head Coach Michael Lewis and the Ball State men's basketball team announced the addition of Mason Jones to the 2023 recruiting class on Thursday.
Jones is a native of Valparaiso, Indiana, and will be a senior at Valparaiso High school this season. He was selected to the Junior All-Star team and earned a spot on the 2022 IBCA/Franciscan Health Underclass All-State Supreme 15. Jones also earned a spot in Valparaiso's record book for blocks in a single season, a feat he did twice. He will provide a threat on both ends of the court with his size and length.
"We're super excited to add Mason to our program," said Coach Lewis. "He's someone that we identified very quickly in the recruiting process. He has great size and length as well as being a good athlete. His versatility, toughness, and competitiveness are what we are continuing to add to our program as we build Ball State into a championship contender in the MAC."
As a sophomore, Jones recorded the second-most blocked shots in a single season with 26. He improved on his mark during his junior campaign and recorded a school-record 30 blocked shots. In just two seasons, he is second in school history with 56 career blocks. Jones needs eight blocks to tie and nine to claim the top spot. During his junior campaign, he averaged 18.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He shot 51.5 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from the 3-point line.
His brother Cooper is a defensive lineman for Indiana. His father was a defensive lineman at Notre Dame and his mother played softball at Indiana.
