Ball State Concludes the Regular Season at Central Michigan

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State soccer team wraps up the regular season on Thursday with a road contest with Central Michigan. The Cardinals look to gain momentum going into the MAC Tournament and still have a potential to earn a No. 1 seed.
Ball State enters Thursday with an overall record of 6-4-7 and a conference mark of 5-1-4. Central Michigan is currently sitting with a 2-10-5 overall record and a 1-5-4 record in the MAC. The Cardinals can secure a No. 1 seed with a victory over the Chippewas and a Buffalo loss to Kent State.
Last Time Out
BSU was 0-0-2 last week with draws against Kent State (0-0) and Buffalo (2-2). Emily Roper put the Cardinals in front 1-0 with a header off a Lexy Smith corner kick. The Bulls scored the match's next two goals and took a 2-1 lead midway through the second half. With 12 minutes left in regulation, Delaney Caldwell recorded Ball State's biggest goal of the season and to keep the hopes alive for a MAC regular season title.

Avery Fenchel paces the Cardinals with 11 goals, which is tied for 15th in the nation and is second in the MAC. Her 11 goals are ranked second in BSU history for goals scored in a season, just two behind the leader, Kate Nadalin, with 13. Caldwell is second on the team with six goals and in points with 13. Lexi Fraley is third on the squad with four goals and has added two assists. Abby Elgert leads the team with seven assists, which is tied for the most in BSU history for a single season. Smith is second on the squad with five. Fraley, Alex McPhee, and Maya Millis all have two assists. Six other Cardinals have one assist each. Bethany Moser continues to be solid in net for BSU and has started all 17 matches this season. Moser has 66 saves on the year.
Series Outlook with the Chippewas
The Chippewas lead the series 16-9-2, but the Cardinals have won seven of the last 10 meetings. Last season, BSU knocked off CMU 2-1 in Mount Pleasant. Central Michigan holds a 9-3-1 advantage at home against Ball State.
Scouting CMU
Megan Logue leads the Chippewas with four goals. Ashley Scesniak and Matilda Melin each have three goals. Four other CMU players have recorded at least one goal. Scesniak and Elizabeth Chlystun are tied for the team lead with five assists. Emma Shingler has spent the majority of time in goal for CMU. Shingler has made 85 saves and surrendered 32 goals.
