Soccer Set for Road Matches at Butler on Thursday and Western Kentucky on Sunday

The Ball State soccer team is set to play at Butler at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Western Kentucky at 2 p.m. ET (1 p.m. CT) on Sunday for its first two road matches of the 2026 season.

The Cardinals (1-0) topped IU Indy by a score of 2-0 last Thursday afternoon with goals scored by Kaelyn Valleau in the third minute and Anna Kate Robillard in the 54th minute. Both Jordyn Klaasen and Jess Fernau assisted on Valleau's early score. Goalkeeper Kate Pallante notched two saves in keeping a clean sheet for the hosts at the Briner Sports Complex.
The Bulldogs (0-1) fell 2-1 at Wright State on Sunday in their season opener with the lone goal being on a penalty kick by sophomore forward Lily Kiliski in the 61st minute to tie the game.
Butler is led by co-head coaches Tari St. John (21st season) and Rob Alman (15th season). Junior midfielder / defender Chloe Brecht was recently named to the preseason All-Big East team after landing on 2025 All-Big East Third Team.
The two sides finished with a 2-2 draw on Sept. 7, 2025 in the last meeting between the programs. Addie Chester scored a pair of goals in the first half to give Ball State a 2-0 edge at the break, but the visiting Bulldogs found the back of the net twice in the second frame for the stalemate.
The Hilltoppers (1-0-1) began the campaign with a scoreless tie against Missouri last Thursday followed by a 1-0 winning decision at Indiana State on Sunday. Western Kentucky hosts UAB Thursday night in advance of Sunday's matchup with the Cardinals.
Head coach Jason Neidell has led the WKU program every year since it started and is now in his 26th campaign with the Hilltoppers. Junior defender Abby Wiedermann, senior midfielder Georgia Liapis and sophomore forward Makenna Egan were recently named to the Conference USA Preseason All-Conference Team.
The series history between Ball State and Western Kentucky is tied at 1-1 with the Hilltoppers taking a 3-1 decision in the last meeting on Aug. 21, 2011 in Bowling Green.
Ball State's next match after this weekend is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 27 at Purdue.
