Men’s Tennis Opens 2022 Season With a Dominating Win Over EIU

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State men's tennis team opened its 2022 season opener with a 7-0 sweep over Eastern Illinois Friday afternoon at the Northwest YMCA.
The Cardinals picked up right where they left off after having a successful spring in 2021.
Ball State opened today's competition earning 6-2 doubles victories on courts two and one, respectively to take the early 1-0 edge over the Panthers.
The Ball State No. 2 duo of Thibault de Negri and Eli Herran were the first twosome off the court for the Cardinals first doubles win than their teammates Danilo Kovacevic and Chris Adams followed suit with a same score victory on the top court.
After that, the Cardinals had taking first sets on all six courts over the Panthers to start singles play.
Vince Orlando returned to the lineup after suffering a season ending injury last spring. Orlando finished first for the Cardinals after breezing through his singles match at the No. 6 position beating Will Ulrich in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.
Kovacevic then made it a 3-0 match with his 6-4, 6-2 win over Leighton Brandon at the top position.
The fourth and the deciding point for BSU came from true freshman Nathaniel Webster who took down Charles Courteau on court three to clinch the match for Ball State.
The Ball State men's tennis teams continues spring action when it hosts Cleveland State Sunday at 2 p.m. ET at the Northwest YMCA.
